‘Goodbye Public Certification’ portable biometric…
“You can keep your personal information safe with a single finger authentication without installing a cumbersome public certificate or a complex password.”
Yoo Mi-young, CEO of OctatcO, said in a recent meeting with MoneyToday, “We will open a new era of security certification by combining biometric-based physical security and online security.” OctatcO, which was established in 2016, is a startup that develops security certification based on biometric technology. It designed and manufactured its own portable biometric steam device called ‘Zippinger’.
“Currently, the 4- to 12-digit password, which is used the most, is making it longer and more complicated to increase security, and requiring changes every three months,” CEO Yoo said. “There is a growing need for a new authentication method that can replace existing security methods around the world.”
Last year, the company introduced “Easyfinger 2,” which strengthens security and allows up to three people to use it. With fingerprint authentication, Easyfinger 2 can simply and safely use various kinds of website authentication from PC login to banking, shopping and payment. A PC can replace a public certificate or password itself with a user’s fingerprint.
Certified as ‘Fido 2MSMS Windows Hello’…Improve convenience and security
The advantage of Easyfinger2 is its pan-soluble nature. It has obtained both ‘FIDO 2’ certification, which is an international online security certification, and Microsoft’s official ‘Window Hello certification’. From Windows operating system (OS) and Android platform to web browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla, Firefox, and Apple Safari. Security meets AAL3 (Assurance Authentication Level 3) which is the highest level of digital certification by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
It is also simple to use. It can be plugged into a PC in USB form without any additional installation work and used immediately. Personal information is stored in a separate safety area within the device. Through this process, it separated the stage of self-certification and online authentication through devices. When authenticating online, no personal identification information is shared, but only authentication signature values are delivered to the server.
South Korean companies are also introducing EZFinger 2 as their primary means of security certification. At the end of last year, Samsung Life Insurance also introduced EZFinger 2 as a device to certify all its employees. In addition to current PCs, OctatcO is planning to introduce biometric steamers for physical security such as corporate and institutional access control and smart devices sequentially. It is planning to increase variety of types of products into wearable devices as well as rings, cards, and key chains to suit user convenience.
“As the number of non-face-to-face systems has soared since Corona 19, personal information and online security issues will also be drawing more attention,” CEO Yoo said. “We plan to supply biometric systems to public institutions as well as business-to-consumer transactions (B2C) and business-to-business transactions (B2B).”
